A significant report by Steve Baker has unveiled transcripts proving that President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of the National Guard ahead of the January 6th, 2021 protests, countering widespread narratives. These previously concealed documents reveal that Trump had expressed concern about potential unrest and took proactive measures to ensure peace.
General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed Trump’s directive on January 3rd, 2021, just days before the Capitol events. Milley recalled Trump saying, “There’s going to be a large amount of protesters here on the 6th. Make sure you have sufficient National Guard or Soldiers to ensure it’s a safe event.” Trump reportedly added, “I don’t care if you use the Guard or active duty Soldiers. Just make sure it’s safe.”
These revelations contradict the claims by media outlets and Democratic leaders that blamed Trump for the chaos. The transcripts also show that top Pentagon officials failed to act on Trump’s requests. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund’s pleas for National Guard assistance on January 6th were denied by the Secretary of the Army’s representative, who cited concerns over the “optics” of deploying troops at the Capitol.
Additionally, Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller downplayed Trump’s concerns about deploying 10,000 troops, dismissing it as mere “banter.” These failures in communication and decision-making contributed to the delayed response during the Capitol breach, further complicating the situation.
Moreover, the transcripts point to further issues, including reluctance from the Department of Defense and National Guard officials, as well as a lack of communication between key figures during the events of January 6th. Despite Trump’s clear intent to maintain security, political concerns over optics prevented timely action, exacerbating the crisis.
These new documents challenge the conclusions of the January 6th Committee, which stated that Trump never ordered National Guard deployment. The revelations also raise questions about decisions made by other political and military leaders before and during the Capitol protests.
