Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tom Homan has contacted federal prosecutors to determine whether Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) violated federal law by allegedly aiding illegal immigrants in avoiding deportation. Homan’s inquiry comes after reports that Ocasio-Cortez’s office hosted a webinar that provided guidance on evading ICE arrests—a move that critics say amounts to obstruction of law enforcement.

AOC’s Webinar Raises Legal Concerns

The controversy stems from a recent virtual event promoted by Ocasio-Cortez’s office, where illegal immigrants were reportedly given tips on how to avoid cooperation with ICE agents. The presentation allegedly included instructions on how to refuse entry to ICE officers, how to decline answering questions, and how to avoid common law enforcement tactics used in apprehensions.

Homan, who has spent decades enforcing U.S. immigration laws, wasted no time in calling for federal prosecutors to investigate whether AOC’s actions constitute obstruction of justice or aiding and abetting illegal entry.

“This isn’t about knowing your rights. This is about a sitting member of Congress actively helping illegal aliens evade law enforcement. That’s a crime,” Homan stated.

Ocasio-Cortez Defends Herself, Downplays Allegations

Ocasio-Cortez defended her webinar, claiming it was meant to educate undocumented immigrants on their constitutional rights. She argued that ICE officers frequently operate without proper warrants and that her office was simply ensuring that migrants understand how to handle interactions with law enforcement.

“Being undocumented is a civil offense, not a criminal one,” Ocasio-Cortez said, brushing off Homan’s criticism as “political theater.”

However, Homan and others argue that actively instructing individuals on how to evade arrest is a far cry from basic legal education.

Is AOC in Legal Trouble?

Homan’s push for a DOJ review could have serious implications for Ocasio-Cortez, depending on how federal prosecutors respond. Under U.S. law, anyone who knowingly assists in harboring or shielding illegal immigrants from detection by law enforcement can face criminal charges—a statute that could apply to AOC’s actions if legal experts determine she crossed the line.

This latest clash underscores the deep divide over immigration enforcement in America. While the Trump administration continues its aggressive crackdown on illegal immigration, left-wing politicians like Ocasio-Cortez appear willing to push legal boundaries to obstruct federal law enforcement.

With Homan refusing to let this slide, the question remains: Will federal prosecutors hold AOC accountable, or will this be another example of politicians evading consequences for undermining the law?
