Tip-off to Biden Team Prevents Hunter Interview, Raises Political Interference Concerns

LISTEN HERE:

During a recent congressional investigation, an FBI supervisory special agent revealed that the Biden transition team and Secret Service headquarters received a tip-off in December 2020 about Hunter Biden’s planned interview.

Surprisingly, this tip-off resulted in the interview not taking place at all, even though Hunter was labeled as the target of a federal investigation that had been ongoing for years. The agent, who had an impressive two-decade career at the FBI before retiring, provided this testimony under oath behind closed doors at the House Oversight Committee.

The agent’s testimony supports whistleblower allegations that the Hunter Biden investigation, led by U.S. attorney David Weiss, was influenced by politics.

Another whistleblower, Gary Shapley, claimed that the Biden transition team and the Secret Service were informed about the upcoming interview of Hunter Biden. The agent’s testimony corroborates Shapley’s claims, further raising concerns about potential political interference.

In an attempt to address these allegations of politicization, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Weiss as the special counsel for the investigation into Hunter Biden. However, this appointment has caused outrage among Republicans and critics of Garland.

They question how the same prosecutor, accused of allowing politics to influence decisions, can now lead the investigation with a perceived sense of independence from the Biden Justice Department.

‘Tipping off the transition team and preventing the scheduled interview with Hunter Biden are just a few examples that reveal the Justice Department’s misconduct in the Biden criminal investigation under U.S. Attorney Weiss’ watch,’ stated House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky.

Comer emphasized that his committee lacks confidence in Weiss, pointing to the inability to prevent contact with the Biden transition team and the frustration caused by the missed interview opportunity. He further criticized the plea deal proposed to Hunter Biden, calling it unprecedented.

The FBI agent’s testimony shed light on various decisions made throughout the investigation, highlighting the distinct approaches taken compared to other cases the agent had worked on during their 20-year FBI career.

According to the transcript obtained by Fox News Digital, the agent stated that it was finally time to interview Hunter Biden years into the investigation, specifically on December 8th, 2020.

Describing the ‘transition team’ as the advisors and appointees surrounding a President-elect, the agent shared that on the morning of the proposed interview, they were notified that they would not be allowed to approach the house.

Instead, they were instructed to provide their information to the Secret Service and wait for further contact. This atypical procedure left the agent surprised, as they had never been told to wait outside a target’s home until being contacted.

The agent further explained their frustration at being unable to proceed with the interview as planned. Instead, they were told to stay a block or two away from the house.

After waiting for some time, they eventually transitioned to interviewing another witness involved in the investigation. When asked if they ever got the chance to interview Hunter Biden, the agent replied negatively.

During the interview, the FBI agent was questioned by minority counsel about whether they believed the change of plans for the December 8, 2020 interview was influenced by political considerations.

The agent hesitated to give a definitive answer, stating that they were not aware of the reasons behind the changes but acknowledged the relationship between FBI and Secret Service headquarters as a potential factor.

Regarding the Biden transition team’s involvement, the agent expressed uncertainty about why the team would have been notified. They could not confirm any knowledge of political reasons behind this decision.

Additionally, when asked if they had ever known U.S. Attorney David Weiss to make prosecutorial decisions based on political influence, the agent confidently responded in the negative.

However, while the agent may have disagreed with certain investigative steps, particularly regarding the interview of Hunter Biden, they acknowledged that decisions had been made, and they had moved on.

This testimony highlights the complexities of the investigation and the various perspectives within the FBI.

Despite efforts by Attorney General Garland to address concerns of politicization, Comer emphasized that the House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways & Means Committees will persist in their investigation of the Justice Department’s perceived two-tiered system of justice. Their objective is to hold those responsible for any misconduct accountable.
