ShutDownDC Group Plans Blockade At Supreme Court

A “shut down SCOTUS” protest is being held June 13 with plans to “blockade” streets near the Supreme Court.

The event was announced by left-wing group ShutDownDC and is set to begin at 7 a.m. at Stanton Park.

According to the group’s website, a “blockade” will form in the streets around the Supreme Court.

“On June 13, one of the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision days, we plan to blockade the streets around the Supreme Court to rise up for the transformative change that our communities need,” it says.

“Right now our political system is in crisis. Times of crisis can either be opportunities to break through the inertia and win transformational change or they can be opportunities for the establishment to further entrench the status quo,” the group added.

During the protest, “affinity groups” of up to 20 people will be formed and each one will have a “jail support liaison who can meet arrested folks” after they are released.

Attendees are encouraged to wear masks and get tested for COVID-19 before showing up to the protest.

ShutDownDC also held a “vigil” outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito on May 9 in response to the leaked draft opinion suggesting the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

“The evening of Monday, May 9, we will hold a vigil for all these rights that Alito is threatening to take away,” they said.
