Two secret service agents were forced home after a drunken altercation in South Korea. The agents allegedly got into a heated argument with a cab driver while in Seoul preparing for an upcoming presidential visit. Both agents were reportedly intoxicated while the incident unfolded.
It’s unclear exactly what the argument with the cabbie entailed.
The pair had apparently went out to dinner but afterward went to numerous bars. As the altercation continued the police were eventually called.
One of the two was investigated, but neither were detained or charged with any crime. Instead, they were shipped home likely to receive a reprimand. The decision to send the employees home was made while Biden was already on his way to Seoul.
The altercation unfolded outside of a hotel, where the President will be staying when he makes his trip to the South Korean capital.
A spokesman for the Secret Service, Anthony Guglielmi told the New York Post that he was aware of the situation. He explained that the incident may involve a breach of work policy. Both agents were placed on administrative leave.
The incident however did not have any impact on the upcoming trip, and operations will continue as normal despite the disruption.
