NFL legend Randy Moss has revealed he is battling cancer in a heartfelt and emotional Instagram Live video, following weeks of speculation about his health. The Minnesota Vikings icon opened up to his fans on Friday, sharing details of his recent diagnosis, surgery, and ongoing treatment while expressing gratitude for the support he has received.
“Ya Boy Is a Cancer Survivor”
Wearing a “Team Moss” shirt, the six-time Pro Bowler appeared visibly frail as he hobbled into view with the aid of a cane. In his candid message, Moss explained the truth behind his recent health struggles, saying:
“I’ve told y’all over the last couple of weeks about me battling something internally, and ya boy is a cancer survivor.”
He revealed that doctors discovered cancer in his bile duct, situated between the pancreas and liver. Moss underwent a six-hour Whipple procedure, a complex surgery to remove the affected area.
“I had the best doctor in the United States, Dr. [John] Martinie,” Moss shared. “I am forever grateful.”
A Tough Road Ahead
Although Moss expressed gratitude for coming through the surgery, he acknowledged that his journey is far from over. He revealed that he is still facing chemotherapy and radiation as part of his recovery.
“It’s going to be a tough road,” he admitted. “I’m nursing my way back.”
It remains unclear whether Moss is now cancer-free or if further treatment is required to eliminate any remaining cancerous cells.
Gratitude and a Call to Action
In his video, Moss took time to thank those who supported him during his hospital stay, where he spent six days recovering.
“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God for blessing me and my family through this trying time,” he said. “Man, those prayer warriors—I felt all the prayers coming through. My family felt that, and we are definitely grateful.”
Moss expressed appreciation for his medical team, naming his doctors individually and calling them “the best that Charlotte has to offer.” He also gave a special shoutout to his ESPN colleagues, promising to return to the studio once he is healthy.
Moss also referenced his “Team Moss” shirt, encouraging fans to donate to his cause, with proceeds going toward cancer research.
Addressing Online Speculation
The NFL great touched on the online rumors about his condition, including false claims that he was battling liver cancer. Moss dismissed the speculation, calling out those who spread misinformation.
“There were a few people out here trying to be doctors that really weren’t doctors, and those clowns I won’t acknowledge,” Moss said.
He stressed the importance of regular health checkups, urging both men and women to prioritize scans, bloodwork, and early detection.
“You’ve got to check your ego at the door,” Moss advised. “When I was in the hospital, looking at my boys’ faces and my beautiful wife’s face, they filled me with so much joy. I just need to get back to my family.”
A Legacy of Resilience
Moss, known for his illustrious NFL career, is a former Offensive Rookie of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, and a Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor member. His remarkable strength and determination on the field are now mirrored in his fight against cancer.
As Moss continues his recovery, fans and teammates alike have rallied around him, offering their prayers and support. The Hall of Famer’s message of gratitude, resilience, and advocacy for health awareness resonates deeply, reminding everyone of the importance of both physical and emotional strength.
