A deeper look into the matter was initiated by the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, who assumed the task of investigating the case further following its transfer from the Rome Police Department.

Their investigation shed light on a shocking incident where Kevin Lamay, a 57-year-old man, was accused of continuous sexual misconduct against a young girl aged less than 15 years, tracing back to April of the year 2021.

More details were provided, stating that the case file was passed on to the office of the Oneida County District Attorney, making it the subsequent authority to receive and examine the case.

A grand jury of Oneida County was then given the authority to deliberate over the case, where they reviewed the presented details and accusations held against Kevin Lamay.

The charges leveled against Kevin Lamay by the grand jury were serious, including predatory sexual assault against a child, sexual behavior directed repeatedly towards a child, and forceful sex. Upon the indictment, an arrest warrant for Lamay was quickly issued.

November 27th saw the successful location and apprehension of Kevin Lamay in Rome. The capture was executed with the integral help from the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force operating under the guidance of the U.S. Marshal’s office.

Following his successful apprehension, Lamay was then presented in front of the Oneida County Court. The court decided to send him to the Oneida County jail, with bail set at a substantial amount of $50,000 in cash.

Standing in the court of Oneida County, Lamay was mandated to adhere to a stay-away order of protection, which was promptly issued at the court hearing. This order was designed to safeguard the young victim from any potential harm.

The issued protective order is aimed primarily at ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the underage victim. It stands as a precautionary measure, preventing any possible interaction between Lamay and the victim.

Additionally, the victim has been provided access to professional services via the Child Advocacy Center. These facilities are intended to provide necessary support and assistance to the victim during these tumultuous times.

In line with their mandate, the Child Advocacy Center is actively involved in offering emotional and psychological support to the affected child. Their active role supplements the ongoing legal processes, ensuring that the victim’s welfare remains catered to while the case is being handled in court.
