A New York woman is suing the New York Mets for $2 million, claiming she was barred from entering Citi Field because she was wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, according to a report by the New York Post.
Aura Moody filed the lawsuit after she says she was denied entry to the stadium on August 14. According to Moody, a staff member told her that the hat, which features the slogan from former President Donald Trump’s campaign, was not allowed inside.
“This country is supposed to be a beacon of freedom for all,” Moody told The Post.
Moody attended the Mets’ home game against the Oakland Athletics with members of the Queens Village Republican Club. She alleges that while she and another club member were told the hats were “too political” and prohibited, other White members of her group were inside the stadium wearing similar MAGA gear. After returning her hat to her car, she saw them seated with no issue.
In her lawsuit, Moody accuses the Mets of “racial discrimination and political retaliation” as well as “reputational harm,” according to court documents.
The Mets have yet to respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, but a spokesperson previously told The Post that the employee involved had been “mistaken about our attire policy.” They also stated the team intended to apologize to Moody and invite her back to Citi Field.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar one earlier this week involving the Arizona Cardinals, who apologized to a woman told to remove her MAGA hat before entering State Farm Stadium. The Cardinals later clarified that the issue stemmed from a misunderstanding of their policies, which prohibit political signage but not personal attire. They also reached out to apologize to the individual involved.
