Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect behind the New Year’s Eve terror attack in New Orleans, had a history of political contributions to Democratic entities, according to Federal Election Commission records.
In May 2020, Jabbar donated $15 through ActBlue, listing his occupation as a consultant for “EY” (presumably Ernst & Young) and his residence in Fresno, Texas. This contribution was directed to the Action PAC, which supported Democratic candidates such as Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia and Jaime Harrison, now the Democratic National Committee Chair.
Earlier, in 2014, Jabbar contributed $5 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, identifying himself as a U.S. Army soldier based in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Jabbar, an American citizen, was found with an ISIS flag in his vehicle after he drove a rented Ford pickup truck into a crowd in New Orleans’ French Quarter, resulting in at least 10 deaths and 35 injuries. The FBI is investigating his potential affiliations with terrorist organizations.
The vehicle also contained weapons and a potential improvised explosive device (IED), with additional possible IEDs discovered in the vicinity. FBI Special Agent Bomb Technicians are collaborating with law enforcement partners to assess and neutralize these devices.
This incident follows previous cases where individuals involved in attacks against political figures had histories of donations to Democratic causes through ActBlue.
