Nassau County received high acclaim recently, earning the title of ‘the safest county in the United States’ in newly published rankings from U.S. News & World Report. The judgment was made based on research that took into account various factors including crime rate, accident casualties, and the quality and availability of medical emergency services. A rigorous review of these aspects was performed across twenty-five different counties in the country, resulting in Nassau securing the top position.
The commendable score received by Nassau is largely attributable to how much the county invests per person in health and emergency services. In terms of numbers, they shell out an impressive $1,148 per individual, which is notably more than the national average expense of $440. This staggering disparity in per capita spending establishes the county’s significant commitment to upholding public safety.
Nassau County, located on Long Island, also demonstrates a significantly lower rate of violent crime than the national average. This stat further propels it in securing its place as the most secure county of the United States, as per the report from U.S. News & World Report.
However, this isn’t the first time Nassau county has found itself in the spotlight. In a previous evaluation of the healthiest communities across America, Nassau secured the 29th spot. Less favourable scores in housing, equity, and social coherence were evident, yet the overall placement remains noteworthy.
New York and New Jersey weren’t alone in the glory. Eight other counties from these states feature in the country’s top 25 safe counties. Recognizable among them were Kings and Queens counties, as well as Suffolk, Morris, Bergen, Westchester, and Rockland.
