New York City mother expressed her disappointment in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, claiming that they treated her and her family poorly while seeking justice for her son’s murder. Speaking at the House Judiciary Committee’s field hearing in NYC on Monday, Madeline Brame detailed her son’s tragic death and the lengthy legal battle that ensued.
Brame was highly critical of Bragg’s management of the case, as well as the broader New York judicial system, pointing out the wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars amid a surge in crime. She accused Bragg of allowing criminals to commit heinous acts without fear of repercussions, contributing to the city’s lawlessness.
Madeline Brame, who sent the letter to Bragg and Gov. Kathy Hochul, claims the DA didn’t communicate with her before they decided to offer the plea deals, which let one of the defendants off on time served.

In an impassioned plea, Brame urged that no more federal tax dollars be given to organizations promoting lenient law enforcement unless they demonstrate measurable results. ‘As for this district attorney’s office,’ she added, ‘if [Bragg] is receiving one penny of federal dollars, you need to pull that funding until he starts doing his damn job and prosecuting crime.’
Her son, Hason Correa, was brutally stabbed nine times in front of his father in 2018 by Mary Saunders, her brother, and another man, all of whom were accused in the crime. Despite working on the case for over four years, Bragg’s office failed to prove that Saunders knowingly abetted in Correa’s murder.

Frustratingly, Brame recounted how Bragg reduced the charges against Saunders and another accomplice, Travis Stewart, saying the two were shown on video actively participating in her son’s savage killing. Saunders received a one-year sentence for assault with a shoe, while Stewart’s gang assault and murder indictment were dismissed, resulting in a sentence for attempted gang assault.
During the hearing, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., clarified that two of the suspects were convicted and are currently serving life sentences for Correa’s murder. Brame’s testimony was among several presented at the field hearing, which was convened by Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, to spotlight the crime issue in New York City.

Jordan has contended that Bragg should prioritize addressing violent crime over prosecuting former President Trump, a stance that resonates with many conservatives who believe that law and order should be at the forefront of the district attorney’s agenda.
