Former Vice President Mike Pence’s organization, Advancing American Freedom (AAF), is urging senators to oppose the confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) due to his stance on abortion.

In a letter obtained by The Daily Wire, AAF President Tim Chapman and Chairman Marc Short highlight Kennedy’s previous statements supporting abortion rights, including his belief that government should not interfere with a woman’s decision to abort, even at full term. They argue that such views are inconsistent with the pro-life policies of the previous Trump administration.

The letter emphasizes the importance of appointing an HHS Secretary committed to protecting unborn children, citing concerns over federal funding for Planned Parenthood, regulations on abortion medication, and insurance coverage of abortion. AAF calls for a nominee who will uphold pro-life policies and resist pressures that could lead to decisions undermining respect for life.

While Kennedy has reportedly made assurances to pro-life leaders, including Senator Josh Hawley, about reinstating certain pro-life policies and appointing pro-life deputies at HHS, AAF remains skeptical. They stress the need for clear and satisfactory answers to specific pro-life questions before considering his confirmation.

This development adds to the growing debate over Kennedy’s nomination, with various conservative and pro-life groups expressing concerns about his alignment with their values, particularly regarding abortion policies.
