In the aftermath of the tragic assassination of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, New York Police Department (NYPD) expanded their investigation beyond New York City. There is now a belief that the instigator may have escaped the city via bus. Confirming this lead, NBC New York disclosed that New York detectives have been dispatched to Atlanta, Georgia to explore possible leads in the ongoing hunt for the assassin.
Details provided by high-ranking individuals entrenched in the investigation shed light on the possible collaboration between the NYPD detectives and local policing authorities in Atlanta. The New York detectives’ mission in Atlanta is aimed at apprehending the individual responsible for the demise of Thompson. Confirmation regarding NYPD’s assistance came directly from the Atlanta police department, however, the specifics of the potential leads guiding this expedition to Georgia were kept under wraps.
On the previous day, the investigative team worked around the suspicion that the suspect in Thompson’s fatal shooting made their journey to New York City from Atlanta. Preferring an untraceable mode of transport, the suspect presumably took a Greyhound bus that arrived in the city on Sunday, November 24th, around 9 p.m.
The investigative team highlighted some key findings related to the suspect’s accommodations during their stay in the city. The suspect seems to have used forged identification during their epoch in New York and paid in cash while checking into a hostel. The hostel boasted of a communal cafe area and accommodation options included shared and private rooms. Its location suited the suspect’s necessity being only blocks away from Columbia University.
Friday evening, the FBI declared their intent to offer a substantial reward for valid information related to the case. The federal entity is offering up to $50,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual behind this fatal assault.
A discovery that came to light on Thursday led investigators to believe the assailant used a combination of a bicycle and a taxi to make their exit from Manhattan. A video snippet from a news agency substantiates this theory, depicting the suspect riding towards Central Park, later seen hailing a taxi to a bus terminal.
Interestingly, the suspect has been recorded entering the bus terminal; however, no surveillance footage of him leaving has been recovered. This potentially infers that the perpetuator might have used the bus terminal as an escape route out of the city. Notably, law enforcement discovered a backpack within the expanse of Central Park believed to have been worn by the gunman during his fatal mission.
