A 23-year-old resident of Aquebogue, Long Island named Christopher Brown has been given a decade-long prison term. His sentencing came on Wednesday, in response to threats he made towards a synagogue, which were revealed in a troubling social media post. The ominous statement he shared on social media read: ‘Should I ask a priest whether I should settle down as a husband or should I attack a synagogue and meet my end.’ His alarming actions led to his apprehension in Penn Station, Manhattan, in November 2022 after law enforcement was alerted about his unsettling declarations.
At the time of Brown’s capture, various suspicious objects were confiscated by the police. These items included a military-grade knife, a face-obscuring ski mask, and an arm patch featuring a swastika symbol. Additionally, Matthew Mahrer, identified as Brown’s alleged partner in crime, was apprehended during the operation.
Following the arrest, police officers ventured into Mahrer’s residential complex in search of further evidence. They came across a bag that held a Glock-style firearm, complete with an extended magazine and 17 rounds of ammunition. This firearm was reportedly linked directly to the attack planned by Brown.
Details from the formal criminal charges shed more light on Brown’s activities. As per these charges, Brown confessed that he operated a Twitter group with white supremacist ideologies, where Mahrer was identified as one of his followers.
