Lauren Daigle to Illuminate Super Bowl 59 with Christian Music

Super Bowl 59 is gearing up for an enthralling evening from New Orleans, filled with vibrant performances. Among the lineup are several talented artists from Louisiana, but the spotlight will shine on one stand-out devotee of Christian music.

Christian music sensation and multiple Dove Award recipient, Lauren Daigle will be taking the stage, alongside fellow Louisiana musicians including Trombone Shorty—whose real name is Troy Andrews—Jon Batiste, and Ledisi. Daigle and Trombone Shorty are slated to present a rendition of ‘American The Beautiful.’ Here’s an inside look into Daigle’s journey and her highly anticipated Super Bowl performance.

Born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Lauren Daigle crafted her path as a Christian music singer, propelling herself into the limelight with the release of her debut album ‘How Can It Be.’ This album climbed to the zenith of Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart in 2015, marking an impressive start to her musical journey.

Although her debut album established her as a Christian music artist, it was her third album ‘Look Up Child’ released in 2018 that fostered Daigle’s reputation beyond the realm of Christian music. Harmony entwined with soulful lyrics propelled Daigle onto the national stage and into the consciousness of a wider audience.

‘You Say,’ a track from ‘Look Up Child,’ soared to six-times platinum status, creating a new record with a 129-week stay at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. This achievement also earned Daigle two coveted Grammy Awards, further solidifying her status in the music industry. She also made history by becoming the first female artist to make it to the Top 10 on both Billboard’s Pop and Christian Album charts.

Recognized for her radiant attire and compelling vocals, Daigle has since become a guiding star in her genre. Moreover, Daigle’s trophy shelf is teeming with accolades, comprising not only of Grammy Awards but also a dozen Dove Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, and four American Music Awards.

In addition to her musical pursuits, Daigle unveiled The Price Fund in 2018, a foundation aligned with causes deeply personal to her. Specifically, the foundation targets support toward the needs of vulnerable youth, children, and seniors. To date, The Price Fund has dispensed nearly $3.5 million to charitable organizations worldwide.

As part of the pre-game celebrations for Super Bowl 59, Daigle will perform alongside Trombone Shorty. The musical duo will mesmerize the audience with their performance of ‘America The Beautiful,’ scheduled for 5:20 p.m. CT.

Joining the duo during the pre-game festivities is Jon Batiste, booked to render a rendition of the national anthem just before the game begins. Completing the lineup is R&B sensation Ledisi, who will captivate listeners with a performance of ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing.’ All the performances will take place at the Caesars Superdome before the kickoff on Feb. 9.

Jumping back a few years, it’s interesting to note that Daigle was an aspirant on the famed TV show ‘American Idol.’ Encouraged by her family, she auditioned in 2010 and 2012. While she didn’t go far in the competition either year—cut off before the final 24 contestants in the first year and eliminated in the initial Las Vegas round in the second year—these experiences helped shape her career.

Far from being deterred, 2019 saw Daigle return to the ‘American Idol’ stage. However, this time she was not a contestant, rather an esteemed guest mentor for the top six contestants. She also performed at the grand finale of Season 18, sharing the stage with that night’s victor, Just Sam.
