Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recently discussed President Donald Trump’s newly announced tariffs on countries such as Canada, Mexico, and China, emphasizing their role in addressing illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

In an interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” Noem stated that these nations have the opportunity to collaborate with the U.S. to manage illegal immigration by repatriating their citizens who are in the country unlawfully. She acknowledged that the tariffs are designed to exert economic pressure, saying, “Economically, yes, they will feel pain. They will feel what the consequences are.”

When questioned about the potential for tariffs to increase consumer prices, Noem referenced a recent situation with Colombia, where U.S. action led to a positive outcome. She suggested that other countries could follow suit by cooperating with U.S. policies to avoid economic repercussions. Noem asserted that if prices rise, it would result from other nations’ responses to American laws, emphasizing that President Trump is ensuring equal application of the law to both citizens and illegal immigrants.

These tariffs are part of the administration’s broader strategy to combat fentanyl trafficking and illegal immigration, aiming to encourage international partners to take more responsibility in these areas.
