Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Poland, where the U.S. has contributed a significant number of troops to the NATO reaction force. Poland shares Ukraine’s western border.
Despite sharing borders, Poland is relatively far from where the fighting is taking place. The Vice President will be safe, and U.S. soldiers are only stationed in Europe in case Russia expands their invasion past Ukraine.
Though the troops are there just in case, it’s highly unlikely that Russia will attempt to invade any other European nations. It would appear that the Russians are struggling enough in Ukraine.
According to the Kyiv Independent reported, according to the Ukrainian government, this far Russia has thus far lost 9,000 troops, 30 planes, 31 helicopters, 900 armored vehicles, 42 MLRS missile systems, and 217 tanks. These numbers are likely at least slightly inflated, though video evidence of major airstrikes against Russian forces has been released.
Fox News reported, The Harris trip is one of several diplomatic contacts between the U.S. and Poland, which has taken in around 650,000 refugees, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. President Biden spoke for nearly an hour with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Friday.
Secretary of State, Antony Blinken will also be traveling to Poland but will be doing so separately from the VP. Blinken will make his journey Saturday to then meet with Harris on Monday.
