Last night, Vice President Harris attempted to gloss over the shortcomings of her 2024 presidential campaign before her disillusioned followers. It appears that Harris, despite the calamitous outcome of her run, was too apprehensive to confront President Biden publicly, fearing the negative publicity that it would inevitably churn up.
Insights from a senior advisor on her campaign reveals that Harris preferred to stay silent in the face of Biden’s inadequacies, a stance that ultimately resulted in her campaign’s downfall. Even on the campaign circuit, she offered weak justifications for her refusal to call out the glaring mishaps of President Biden.
In stark contrast to the Democratic camp’s unwillingness to voice criticism where it was due, President-elect Donald Trump marked a victory in taming illegal migration via Mexico. Trump’s triumph did not come easy, and it involved threatening new tariffs on Canada and Mexico, highlighting his strong commitment to halting illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
Trump’s conversation with the Mexican leader resulted in an agreement to curb migration through Mexico, a significant achievement that stands in stark contrast to Democrats’ seeming lack of action on this front. In the face of this political masterstroke, it was painfully evident that the Democrats were left scrambling for a new strategy, their previous blueprint having failed enormously.
The Democrats faced another crushing defeat when Rep. Michelle Steel (R-Calif.) emerged victorious in her reelection against Democrat rival Derek Tran for California’s 45th Congressional District. Despite the Democrats’ pitiful attempts at painting this as a win on their side, the clear victory belonged to the Republicans.
Adding to the embarrassment was the chorus of laughter ringing out from Republicans and right-wing US media when Vice President Harris emerged from her recent election defeat. A recorded message where Harris thanked her supporters only served to stoke the fires of ridicule. Her attempts at encouraging her supporters instead became a source of amusement, once again underlining her failing political clout.
Preparing for Total Mayhem should aptly describe the Democrats’ current state as the House GOP achieves a Historically Negligible Majority. The Republicans, on the other hand, are treading carefully, as they can’t afford to lose any edge they possessed.
After her electoral humiliation, Harris finally resurfaced with a vague message to her supporters—essentially asking them to hold on to their political power. The irony wasn’t lost to anyone, considering that Harris has effectively gone into hibernation post her devastating electoral defeat to Trump.
Meanwhile, Democrats kept harping on Derek Tran’s marginal win over Republican Michelle Steel for a House seat representing California’s Orange County and Los Angeles, which was touted as amongst one of the most fiercely contested battles. While the Democrats were quick to parade this single win, their overall status remained at a dismal low.
Adding to the Democrats’ sea of failures were the results of the 2024 Pennsylvania elections, which left their party in shambles. Despite this monumental defeat, they continued to peddle the narrative of Pennsylvania still being a swing state—a desperate effort to hold on to their slipping political power.
Harris made her first public appearance since her concession speech, in a feeble attempt to console her supporters. A look of defeat marked her countenance as she made a futile effort to keep up the spirits of her followers.
The doom that settled on the Harris campaign was further confirmed by her aides who revealed that their internal polls never had her leading against Trump. In other words, Harris was arguably pursuing an unattainable dream.
With Trump’s authority firmly in place, all attention turns to the five Republican senators who could potentially affect his political course. Trump’s proposed team members must secure Senate approval, where Republicans hold the majority with 53 seats.
Washington D.C. experienced a surge of anxiety following Trump’s successful first term, with locals fearing that their basic rights might be undermined even further in his second. The longing for statehood has egregiously been replaced by a necessity to protect the limited self-governance they presently command.
Despite their initial protests during Trump’s first term, it is now apparent that Washington residents are more anxious than ever before, fearing the harsher realities Trump’s second term might bring. Democrats are yet to produce a viable strategy to assuage such fears and offer a path forward.
