In a surprising turn of events, Vice President Kamala Harris failed to exceed President Joe Biden’s 2020 performance in any state and nearly every county across the country in Tuesday’s presidential election. CNN’s John King broke down the numbers on air with anchor Jake Tapper, who seemed stunned by the data.

“Are there any places where the vice president is outperforming Joe Biden in 2020?” Tapper asked King, visibly hoping for some good news for the Harris camp. King pulled up a map showing regions where Harris had managed to perform three percent or better than Biden. The result? The map was entirely grey, with no significant gains to show. “Holy smokes!” Tapper reacted in disbelief. “Literally nothing?”

“Literally nothing,” King confirmed. Tapper pressed further, asking, “Literally not one county?” prompting King to clarify that they were looking at states. King then pulled up a second map, zooming into the county level, showing Harris had outperformed Biden in just 58 of more than 4,000 counties.

“So, 58 counties. Trump, by comparison, was over a thousand counties out of the 4,600 counties and townships across America,” King explained, underscoring the vast disparity in support. “There might be a few more on the West Coast as the count continues,” King added, “but in the states that matter — like Pennsylvania — there’s just one county where she’s outperformed President Biden by even 3% or more.”

Trump was declared the winner early Wednesday morning, securing both the Electoral College and the popular vote in a decisive victory.
