The United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, was caught without wearing his mask on an American Airlines flight on Wednesday. Donald Trump Jr. uploaded the photo taken of Kerry to Twitter which went viral.
In Trump Jr.’s tweet, he wrote Kerry was flaunting “Liberal Privilege” in violation of part of President Biden’s Federal mask mandate that requires everyone over two years old to wear masks on flights.
Other users asked American Airlines to respond to the situation by writing on their tweets and tagging them in posts.
After facing backlash, Kerry took to Twitter himself to address the hypocrisy. He wrote, “Let’s be clear: If I dropped my mask to one ear on a flight, it was momentary. I wear my mask because it saves lives and stops the spread. It’s what the science tells us to do.”
An American Airlines spokesperson told The Hill in a statement, “The crew did not observe Secretary Kerry without a mask, and they were not alerted by other customers to a non-compliance issue. We continue to review the matter and we are reaching out to Secretary Kerry to underscore that all customers are expected to wear masks for the duration of their trip.”
