In a recent interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Vice President JD Vance engaged in a heated exchange with host Margaret Brennan over the vetting process of Afghan refugees admitted to the United States during the Biden administration. Brennan asserted that these individuals were thoroughly vetted, a claim Vance vehemently disputed.

Vance emphasized that not all refugees had undergone proper vetting, citing instances where individuals, despite being cleared, were later implicated in planning terrorist activities within the U.S. He referenced a recent case in Oklahoma, where an Afghan refugee, previously deemed vetted, was arrested for plotting an attack.

Brennan countered by suggesting that such individuals might have been radicalized after their arrival in the U.S., implying that the initial vetting process was not at fault. Vance dismissed this argument, stating, “I don’t really care, Margaret. I don’t want that person in my country, and I think most Americans agree with me.”

This exchange underscores the ongoing debate over the adequacy of refugee vetting procedures and the balance between humanitarian efforts and national security concerns.
