January 6th Worse Than Pearl Harbor?

In stark contrast to the riots that engulfed many urban and nearby suburban areas last year and beyond, the media has insisted that the riot at the DC capital was of more dire importance that demanded action and accountability for those involved. While confessed perpetrators of numerous riots have been released by the district attorneys of, apparently, lawless jurisdictions, there have been nonstop calls for an “independent” commission to investigate a six-month-old incident. Just in case you weren’t sure where Washington’s priorities lie – lives and livelihoods lost in the cities politicians pretend to care about in election years? Crickets. A non-state-sanctioned group of malcontents make DC’s security look like a bunch of mall cops? Fire and brimstone.

Well, they didn’t get it.

While it is assuring to know that the country will not be dragged through a multi-million dollar, years-long investigation like it did with the Mueller probe, republican voters are left questioning the interests of several of their representatives in the Senate: Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Susan Collins (R-MA), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Robert Portman (R-OH), Mitt Romney (R-UT), and Ben Sasse (R-NB), all voted in favor of the commission, but failed to reach the 60 total votes to bypass the Senate filibuster and advance the bill. These six voted in favor of a commission predicated on rhetoric that, if they’d heard Trump speak at the capital on the 6th, would know was bogus and would not have entertained the entreated the Democrats constant Orange-Man delirium.

Despite the naked opportunism disguised as bipartisan cooperation failing to produce the establishment’s desired result, calls have already begun to drum up once again that the filibuster ought to be done away with. But while Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) both voted in favor of the 9/11-style commission, they have, to their credit, halted efforts to erase the filibuster. These two holdouts have ensured a continued modicum of two-party politics, rather than one-party dominance over the legislative branch.

One has to wonder why no serious consideration has been given toward a commission to investigate Biden’s on-camera admission to foreign political meddling in Ukraine to save his son from prosecution; not even as a trade for the January 6th commission. The contents of Hunter’s laptop? Troop totals in Syria being kept from Trump while he was president? The Steele Dossier and British intelligence? Not likely.

Birds of a feather work the law together.
