Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville delivered a fiery critique of his own party after Republicans clinched control of the House of Representatives, securing a GOP trifecta following the 2024 general election. In a video broadcast at Politicon, Carville didn’t hold back, blasting Democrats for their failures and urging them to face reality if they hope to remain relevant in future elections.
“We have no legislative power, we have no executive power, we have no judicial power. So when you’re out of power, you’re an opposition party,” Carville stated. “Then go and tell all the people that are sending you and asking you for money, justify what you did. Justify what you did wrong, and tell us what you’re going to do different.”
Carville didn’t mince words, making it clear he believes Democrats need to take a hard look in the mirror. “What you’ve done ain’t worth a st. Get your head around that. And all of the Washington-based Democrats farting around, going to wine and cheese parties, and talking about how misogynistic the race is — get your a out of Washington, and go work on a 2026 campaign and do penance to make up for your godd*** arrogance and stupidity.”
The veteran strategist slammed the party’s focus on identity politics, calling it a disaster. “We’re going to say we told you so. We told you this identity s*** was disaster. We told you to get out in front of public safety issues. You didn’t,” Carville said, referencing the party’s embrace of the “Defund the Police” movement, which he believes alienated voters.
Carville didn’t stop there, criticizing Democrats for neglecting public safety concerns that resonate with everyday Americans. He argued that the party had become overly fixated on what he called a “stupid Godd*** identitarian mission,” losing sight of core issues that matter to constituents.
In a scathing conclusion, Carville declared that the Democratic Party is currently stuck in what he termed “the entire era of Jacka**ery,” signaling his frustration with the party’s direction and strategy.
Carville’s explosive remarks highlight the growing divide within the Democratic Party, as moderate voices like his push back against progressive narratives that they believe have cost the party elections. With Republicans now holding control of both Congress and the White House, Carville’s criticism serves as a stark wake-up call for Democrats heading into the next election cycle.
