LISTEN HERE:
House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Jim Jordan (R-OH), recently sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland concerning alleged whistleblower retaliation against IRS agents involved in the federal investigation into Hunter Biden. In the letter, Jordan expressed concern over the “retaliatory conduct” exercised towards the whistleblowers and asked Garland to hand over relevant records related to this event before June 8.
Jordan’s letter comes after a whistleblower from the IRS tax case regarding Hunter Biden accused senior political appointee Garland of giving “preferential treatment and politics improperly infecting” the case. According to this whistleblower, senior DOJ officials have allegedly interfered with the investigation. Another IRS whistleblower who raised concerns regarding inappropriate action taken by the DOJ leadership on the same investigation also claims to have suffered retaliation.
Earlier this week, IRS supervisory special agent Gary Shapley, who was also a whistleblower, gave his first public interview and talked about the alleged improper conduct in the Hunter Biden case. He claimed that when he took charge of the investigation, he immediately noticed that there were several deviations from standard protocol, which were not done promptly by the Department of Justice.
These whistleblowers were reportedly removed from the Hunter Biden investigation in May, which has led to accusations of retaliation. Jordan drew attention to this in his letter, stating that the committee will not tolerate retaliatory conduct against these individuals.
In his letter to Garland, Jordan requested all documents and communications related to the removal of the IRS criminal supervisory special agent and his investigative team from the Hunter Biden investigation and all relevant records from both the DOJ and the IRS related to any investigation involving both agencies.
Jordan also demanded all documents related to the removal of the IRS whistleblowers, including their investigative team, and any records referring or relating to investigations involving both DOJ and the U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware.
Garland has vowed that the federal prosecutor handling the Hunter Biden investigation will not face any political interference and has made it clear that he will not appoint a special counsel. However, given the allegations of retaliation and political bias against whistleblowers, it remains to be seen how effective his efforts will be.
Republicans on the Judiciary Committee have also been investigating the infamous Hunter Biden laptop letter signed by more than 50 former intelligence officials. The investigation has uncovered a host of new details, including the fact that former acting CIA Director Mike Morell was “triggered” by now-Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discredit the New York Post’s reporting on the laptop.
Jordan’s letter to Garland has not only raised concerns over the alleged whistleblower retaliation but has also brought renewed attention to the ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden.
Many observers believe that this investigation is hampered by political bias and personal vendettas and needs to be taken seriously to ensure impartial justice is served. The alleged impropriety smack heavily of corruption that has already done significant damage to the DOJ’s reputation.
Regardless of our political differences, we should all agree that justice must be served impartially, without bias or resentment. These allegations need to be fully investigated and resolved to restore faith in the justice system and ensure that our government is held accountable.
Based on Jordan’s letter, it appears that Congress has finally felt this need for impartial investigation more keenly. We hope that this effort from our elected officials will ultimately achieve its goal of ensuring justice is done in this and all other cases.
The Hunter Biden investigation has highlighted the very real need to maintain transparency and impartiality in our justice system. To do so, we must put aside our personal biases and campaign agendas, and focus on the facts of the case at hand.
As the investigation moves forward, it is our hope that all the whistleblowers involved will be protected from any further retaliation, and that investigators will be allowed to carry out their duties with the utmost independence and impartiality.
Regardless of the outcome, the Hunter Biden case shows us that when it comes to justice, political bias has no place. This is the time to put aside partisanship and act in the interests of justice, transparency, and accountability.
The allegations raised by Jordan’s letter to Garland may be troubling and require further investigation, but it also provides an opportunity to uphold justice and the rule of law. Let us hope that our elected officials will embrace this opportunity and restore faith in our law enforcement agencies and institutions.
In conclusion, the allegations of whistleblower retaliation related to the Hunter Biden investigation are deeply troubling and deserve the attention of Congress and the public. We need to take a more unambiguous stand on impartiality and fairness in our justice system to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. We all should support efforts to bring transparency and accountability to our justice system, free from any personal or political bias.
