A car chase resulted in the detention of a driver early Sunday morning following a collision with two police vehicles, Jamestown law enforcement officials announced. The perpetrator, identified as Nicholas C. Brown, 34, resisted officers when they moved to apprehend him on the scene of the crash.
The charges laid against Brown included three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, along with second-degree reckless endangerment. Authorities also accused him of third-degree eluding of police onboard a motor vehicle besides charges of resisting arrest, and second-degree criminal mischief.
The apprehended individual, due to his prior record of criminal activities, is being held without the possibility of bail in the Chautauqua County Jail. This move comes as a result of a stipulation set down by the law enforcement agency.
Brown’s rap sheet included a conviction last year in 2021. This conviction was linked to charges stemming from a ferocious domestic altercation that occurred back in September 2018. The aforementioned incident led to a nearly 11-hour-long standoff with the local law enforcement of Jamestown.
Regarding the recent incident leading to his arrest, it was reported that the issue began around 12:45 a.m. when officers noticed Brown’s car committing multiple traffic violations. Upon trying to stop the suspect’s vehicle for the said infractions, the vehicle accelerated away.
The details of the chase, as recalled by the police, revealed that the pursuit continued for a substantial duration. During the high-speed chase, Brown’s vehicle came perilously close to hitting several police officers, narrowly evading them at each instance.
The dangerous spree came to a close when Brown’s vehicle collided with a vehicle of the State Police that was marked visibly. But the damage did not end there. In the process, a vehicle parked on the vicinity also became unintentionally involved in the incident.
Brown’s vehicle, through its trajectory, further resulted in damage to a marked vehicle belonging to the Jamestown Police. The fact that the vehicle was stationary during the time of impact marks the end of the high-speed chase which had caused potential danger to the officers involved as well as the general public.
It has been reported that, aside from the property damages caused by the prolonged chase and Brown’s resistance, there are no injuries associated with the incident. The officers were able to execute their duty without incurring personal harm.
Given the severity and nature of Brown’s charges, it is likely that he will face a serious trial. The past criminal history only adds to the severity of his current situation. The court will have to consider each charge and its corresponding evidence thoroughly.
It is important to underline that every individual stands innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Brown’s past brushes with the law might paint a different picture, but this notion still stands. Regardless, the weight of the charges he currently faced could not be understated, exhibiting the seriousness of his acts.
