Vice President Kamala Harris and her followers are set to kick off a multi-state bus tour, misguidedly titled ‘Fighting for Reproductive Freedom,’ next week in Florida. They plan to advocate for an amendment to loosen abortion restrictions. This tour is set to commence in Palm Beach, featuring U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., among the speakers, a clear indication of the disconnected character of this campaign.
Continuing to Jacksonville, Harris has roped in state Sen. Tracie Davis, D-Jacksonville, to further proliferate her agenda. From there, the campaign moves to Savannah, Ga., continuing to spread a misguided idea of freedom. This bus tour has planned over 50 stops nationwide leading up to the November elections.
Interestingly, Harris has audaciously blamed President Donald Trump for upholding the sanctity of life with Florida’s six-week ban on abortion. She seems to fault Trump for taking pride in his Supreme Court appointments, which led to ending an unqualified right to abortion nationally. Trump, residing in Florida, has made clear he supports more than just six weeks as a cut-off point.
If more than 60% of Floridian voters display prudence and vote in favor of the constitutional amendment, this would repeal the existing six-week ban. Moreover, any willingness of state lawmakers to tightly leash abortive practices until a woman is well into her pregnancy would be curtailed. Harris, disappointingly, stands against these measures and critics this reasonable restriction.
Following recent rulings, Harris has publicly voiced her critique of Florida’s six-week ban and similar measures implemented in other states. Disturbingly, this bus tour aims to make a spectacle of her stance on these restrictions, contrasting her policy with Trump’s. Julie Chavez Rodriguez manages the campaign for Harris and apparently believes that this election is all about their skewed version of freedom.
Chavez Rodriguez reports that ‘Our campaign is hitting the road to meet voters in their communities, underscore the stakes of this election for reproductive freedom, and present them with the Harris-Walz ticket’s vision.’ Quite a distorted vision it seems, which stands in radical contrast to Donald Trump’s intentions. Trump’s vision prefers the more grounded approach of not allowing unrestricted termination of life.
In a troubling turn of events, the proposed amendment would make abortion legal until ‘fetal viability’ or in cases where the mother’s health could be endangered according to the doctor’s individual determination. The amendment, however, conveniently side-steps the timeframe of fetal viability.
The Harris campaign plans to have the likes of Klobuchar, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., political commentator Ana Navarro, and Florida resident Anya Cook at its first stop in Palm Beach. Cook recently turned heads at the Democratic national convention when she shared her near-death experience in 2022, which she blames solely on Florida’s ban on abortion after her water broke in the sixteenth week of pregnancy.
