Troy Nehls of Texas, who announced on social media that Trump had personally informed him of his support for Jordan. As a close ally of Trump and one of the leading GOP lawmakers investigating President Joe Biden, Jordan possesses a strong conservative stance that makes him a formidable candidate for the speaker position. If elected, Jordan would likely be one of the most conservative speakers in recent memory.
Notably, both Jordan and Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise have already garnered significant support for the role of speaker. Jordan had previously endorsed Trump’s presidential campaign, while Scalise, who previously served as majority leader under McCarthy, has not.
On Thursday night, Jordan appeared on Fox News and expressed his confidence in his ability to unite the fractured Republican conference. Earlier in the day, Jordan held a call with moderate members of the Main Street Caucus, where he addressed their concerns about changing the motion to vacate, a process used by Rep. Matt Gaetz to remove McCarthy from his position.
