Seth Andrew, a former Obama education advisor has been arrested for scheming to embezzle over $218,000 from a charter school network.
The charter school network was one that he founded, Democracy Prep Public Schools.
Seth Andrew is accused of using half of the money he stole, to hold in a bank account so that he could receive a better interest rate according to NBC.
NBC reported: “He is charged with wire fraud, money laundering and making false statements to a financial institution, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, which is prosecuting the case. The charges carry a maximum possible prison term of 30 years, but Andrew is almost certain to get far less time than that if convicted, given federal sentencing guidelines.”
Andrew was given $500,000 bond that requires 3 co-signatures in order for him to be released on his own recognizance. He was made to surrender his means of international travel and confined to New York City.
His first appearance in court is set for may 27th where he will enter a not guilty plea according to his attorney, however It would appear that the prosecution has a very strong case against Andrew.
For many, it’s no surprise that former Obama cabinet members are involved in financial corruption.
