After posting a sign telling Biden supporters to eat elsewhere, a Florida diner had to temporarily close when they ran out of food.
Owner Angie Ugarte closed The DeBary Diner on September 2 after running out of food. The restaurant saw a surge in demand when a sign was posted on the front door criticizing Biden and telling his supporters to take their business somewhere else.
“If you voted for and continue to support and stand behind the worthless, inept and corrupt administration currently inhabiting the White House that is complicit in the death of our servicemen and women in Afghanistan, please take your business elsewhere.
The sign from the diner
The sign is a response to the death of 13 U.S. service members in Kabul, Afghanistan after a suicide bombing. Thousands of others have criticized Biden’s handling of the U.S.’s withdrawal from the country.
Ugarte told the Daytona Beach News-Journal, “I’ve gotten so many people calling me from all over the world, from Europe, trying to purchase meals for veterans, which I still haven’t been able to organize”. “I think that the veterans will be fed for the rest of the year at the rate I’m getting donations”. she added.
Military veterans and other supporters visited the diner after seeing Ugarte’s sign.
Rod Phillips, a decorated Vietnam veteran, thanked Ugarte, saying “All these people said, ‘We’ve got to come over here and thank Angie.’ We wanted to come over and thank you”.
Ugarte said she has been receiving some death and bomb threats but most reactions are approving. She also explained that her message is not political and she would have said the same thing if former President Donald Trump was still in office.
She was able to reopen her restaurant Friday.
