A Florida Democratic Party official and prominent LGBTQ+ activist, Matthew Inman, has been arrested on federal charges of transporting child pornography. Inman, 39, served as the treasurer for the Orange County Democratic Party and was the president of the Rainbow Democrats, an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization.
Allegations and Arrest
Federal authorities allege that between August and October 2024, Inman received and saved multiple videos depicting child sexual abuse. In October, during a trip to Las Vegas, Inman reportedly engaged in explicit online conversations with an undercover FBI agent posing as the father of a 9-year-old boy. During these chats, Inman allegedly expressed interest in meeting the child for illegal activities and sent explicit videos to the agent.
Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Inman’s residence, where they discovered additional incriminating material. According to reports, Inman attempted to delete the videos from his phone and hid in his attic to evade arrest. He was ultimately apprehended by U.S. Marshals and is currently being held without bond at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility in Seminole County.
Organizational Response
The allegations have shocked the political and advocacy communities. The Orange County Democratic Party released a statement condemning Inman’s alleged actions, stating, “We are appalled and horrified by the charges against Matthew Inman. We unequivocally condemn child sexual abuse in the strongest possible terms and hope justice is served swiftly.”
The Rainbow Democrats have also severed ties with Inman, issuing their own statement: “We are deeply saddened and outraged by the allegations. Our organization stands firmly against any form of exploitation or abuse, and we have taken immediate steps to suspend Mr. Inman from all roles.”
Legal Ramifications
Inman faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted of transporting child sexual abuse material. The case is part of an ongoing federal investigation into child exploitation crimes, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
