Florida is the latest state to introduce a strict limit on abortion. Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill banning abortions after the 15-week mark.
Fox News reported, The legislation allows for abortions past 15 weeks only in situations involving a “fatal fetal abnormality,” and makes no exceptions for rape or incest. The law limits the time an abortion is legal by nine weeks, as abortions were previously banned in the state past 24 weeks.
DeSantis noted that the bill also allocated funding to add to the number of infant mortality review boards across the state.
This bill comes as Texas’ 6-week abortion ban continues to face scrutiny despite working only to punish those who perform abortions and not individuals on whom an abortion is performed.
The Supreme Court has not yet acted to prevent the Texas ban from being enforced, and it’s likely that another look at Roe V. Wade may be coming in the not-so-distant future.
“If you’re looking at what we’ve done this week, we’re promoting fatherhood in Florida,” The Governor proclaimed. “We want our kids to have dads in the home. We want the fathers present and to take responsibility. It’s the most important thing you can do is to take responsibility for the upbringing of your kids.”
At the signing event, Ron DeSantis was joined by pro-life activists from Florida as well as individuals who have a deep connection to the topic, like family members of people who have survived abortions.
