The document is labeled for “FBI internal use only,” many of the symbols listed are nothing more than icons of liberty and American freedom.

Under a section labeled “commonly referenced historical imagery or quotes” the FBI lists the Betsy Ross Flag, the Gadsden Flag, and “revolutionary war imagery.”

The Betsy Ross flag was first commissioned in May of 1777 by request of General George Washington himself to symbolize the creation of a new nation. The flag is one of, if not the very first variation of the American flag we know and love today.

The Gadsden flag was created in 1775 and adopted by the continental marines. Everyone has seen the Gadsden at least once, the bright yellow banner depicts a coiled rattlesnake with the words “Don’t Tread On Me”.

The flag represents a fundamental opposition to tyranny and has, since the time of the American revolution become a beacon of liberty and freedom around the world. Other similar flags representing various libertarian ideologies have adopted the bright yellow and black color scheme.

Revolutionary War imagery… this one is quite self-explanatory. It seems that any American proud of, or interested in their nation’s history could be labeled a domestic terrorist.
