Elon Musk, in his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is calling for an official audit of the gold reserves stored at Fort Knox, raising questions about the actual status of America’s bullion holdings. This move has gained significant traction, with Senator Rand Paul backing Musk’s push for transparency, echoing his father Ron Paul’s long-standing demand for a full accounting of the nation’s gold supply.

How Much Gold Is Really in Fort Knox?

The official valuation of the gold stored at Fort Knox is estimated to be around $425 billion, but the lack of a comprehensive, independent audit has fueled speculation for decades. While government officials insist the reserves remain untouched and secure, skeptics—including Musk—argue that a modern, transparent review is long overdue.

Fort Knox has not undergone a full, publicly verified audit in decades. The most notable inspections occurred in 1974, when journalists were allowed a brief glimpse of the reserves, and again in 2017, when then-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin visited the facility. However, these were far from a complete forensic examination of the nation’s gold holdings.

Musk’s Mission to Expose Government Waste Expands

Musk’s call for a Fort Knox audit aligns with DOGE’s broader mission of identifying inefficiencies, eliminating government waste, and ensuring accountability. His team has already spearheaded massive spending cuts across federal agencies, and now they are setting their sights on one of the most heavily guarded secrets in U.S. financial history.

“If everything is as they claim, then there should be no issue with verifying it,” Musk reportedly told close advisors.

Rand Paul Joins the Fight for Transparency

Senator Rand Paul has thrown his support behind Musk’s initiative, pointing out that his father, former Congressman Ron Paul, had long advocated for a full audit of America’s gold reserves but was repeatedly stonewalled by the government.

“Why does the government refuse to allow a full audit of Fort Knox? The American people deserve to know what’s really there,” Paul stated.

What’s Next?

If Musk and his team at DOGE succeed in securing an audit, it could be one of the most significant financial disclosures in modern history. However, given the government’s reluctance to open Fort Knox for a full accounting, the fight for transparency is far from over.

With Musk and Paul turning up the pressure, the question remains: Will the U.S. government finally allow a full audit, or will it continue to resist scrutiny?
