Driver Survives Windshield Smash on Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge

A chilling piece of footage circulating on the internet captures the heart-stopping moment when a plank of wood smashes the front windshield of an automobile traversing the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

Several news agencies have identified the motorist as David Deng, a Brooklyn resident, who managed to record the frightful experience on his dashboard camera as he made his way across the span bound for Staten Island last Wednesday.

It is alleged that an individual was attempting to fix the plank onto the back of a pick-up truck. Unfortunately, a gusty wind intervened, hurtling the board straight into Deng’s windshield who was cruising on the opposite end of the span.

Once hit by the flying plank, his vehicle seemed to jolt ferociously reflecting the veracity of the shocking encounter. The windshield sustained major damage, with deep cracks and splintered glass making it nearly impossible to see through and drive safely according to the disturbing video footage shared on Reddit.

Despite the daunting situation, Deng commendably maintained his composure. ‘Glass fragments were all over our clothes and seats,’ he recalled.

According to Deng, the sensible strategy was to keep moving until he could locate a safe place to stop. ‘The most prudent course of action was to carry on driving and find a secure place to halt,’ he explained.

Deng, along with his co-passengers, managed to make their way to their destination despite the unnerving mishap—a funeral on Staten Island.
