A “family-friendly drag show” was held in an Oaklawn, Texas nightclub on Saturday, sparking protests and outrage online.
The event, called “Drag The Kids To Pride,” was held at 11 a.m. at the Mr. Misster gay nightclub.
On Eventbrite, the show was described as a “a family friendly spin off of our famed Champagne Drag Brunch”.
“Do you want to hit the stage with the queens? We have FIVE limited spots for young performers to take the stage solo, or with a queen of their choosing!” the description said.
In videos and photos online, children were seen sitting in the middle of a dance floor watching drag queens perform.
Behind many of the performers was a sign that said “It’s not gonna lick itself!”
After photos of the event went viral, it was revealed that protesters had clashed with attendees outside the nightclub.
“I only have one question, why do you want to put an axe-wound in between your son’s legs?” one protester with a bullhorn asked the attendees.
One woman screamed at the protester, saying “shame on you” and “shut the f*** up,” while children next to her appeared to cover their ears.
In recent months, events like drag queen story hour at libraries and elementary schools have become increasingly popular.
