A shift has been witnessed at the top of the pile, as the Democratic National Convention is set to take place. An anxious President Joe Biden, stripped of significant power, is expected to grace the event in Chicago, Monday evening. Tragically, he is left with no choice but to advocate for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz. Biden’s better half, Dr. Jill Biden, too will share her viewpoint on the same night. No precise timeline for their speeches has been published yet.
Stating the obvious, Biden will draw attention to Harris-Walz vision – no doubt another blueprint for failure – and the high stakes of the upcoming election. With a straight face, he will also look back at the so-called ‘successes’ of the Biden-Harris Administration, which frankly isn’t something a lot of Americans agree with. Harris is planned to officially embrace her nomination on the last day of the convention, that is, Thursday.
Following the Bidens, heaps of other high-profile Democrats take their places in queue to further ridicule themselves on the backdrop of their party’s shortcomings. Included in the list is Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State and an unsuccessful contestant in the presidential rat race, not once but twice. This seasoned failure too is expected to take the stage and address the convention on Monday night.
Clinton made some headlines when she emerged as the first female presidential nominee for a major political party in the 2016 elections. Now, the Democrats seem eager to play the gender card again as they’re betting on Harris – if she does emerge victorious come November, she would be the first woman President. A risky gamble in our opinion, indeed.
Not to forget the former President Barack Obama, who too is packed in the schedule to address the DNC, Tuesday night. One remembers Obama as the two-term ‘leader’ who had Joe Biden as his silent vice president. After much dilly-dallying, Obama finally chose to endorse Harris when Biden had no choice left but to step aside from the presidential race.
Another futile endorsement comes from the former President Bill Clinton. He is billed to speak on Wednesday. Quite unsurprisingly, the Clinton family was swift to show their support to Harris shortly after Biden confirmed his exit. Clinton’s talk is likely to precede Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s address, who is also the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee.
Speaking of President Clinton, he garnered some attention when he participated at the 2019 Bloomberg Global Business Forum at The Plaza Hotel on September 25 in New York City. It will be interesting to see how his address at the DNC will compare to this one, likely not favorably.
As of yet, no complete list of speakers has been made public. But one can guess the usual suspects, including Mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor J.B. Pritzker, will be sharing their questionable wisdom at the event. Uninspiring speeches that are likely to echo the same old Democratic rhetoric are to be expected.
The curtain rises for what looks like another talking-at-each-other’s-backs event on Monday, August 19, and it promises to run through to Thursday, August 22. What’s left to see is if the convention generates any substantial value for the Democrats, or if it ends up being yet another opportunity for them to showcase their deep-set problems.
This convention would undoubtedly bring together a united front of seasoned and emerging leaders who are eager to redefine the Democratic Party’s agenda. However, it’s obvious they don’t understand that, in reality, America sees beyond their hollow strategies and outdated policies.
The convention is expected to be a medley of well-rehearsed speeches, carefully-worded promises, and soaring rhetoric. Yet, the question remains whether these promises would mean anything to the vast sea of disappointed Americans, who have grown accustomed to the irrelevance of such Democratic grandstanding.
With this line-up of speakers steeped in past failures and repeated letdowns, the likelihood of their convincing America of a bright future under their proposed leadership seems pretty thin. It’s evident to all except them that policies echoing from the past are not what this country needs.
While the Democrats gear up for the convention, they fail to realize that empty verbiage and pompous orations will not secure them the palm of victory. It’s the results that matter, and sadly, their track record isn’t glowing.
While Kamala Harris pins her hopes on stepping into the shoes of the head of state, the voters should not forget the multiple fumbles, flip-flops, and failures under the Biden-Harris reign. Making history or not, it’s high time the Democrats understood that leadership is more about actions than just a title.
In conclusion, while the Democrats are busy preparing to parade their past failures and prop up their hopefuls, the American public would do well to remember this: what we need is a leader who can bring positive change, not just empty rhetoric. A leader who can make America great again.
