After text messages revealed that his wife supported the theory that Donald Trump had been cheated out of the 2020 Presidential election, many have called for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to resign from his position.
Fox News reported that Virginia (Ginni) Thomas shared 29 text messages with then-chief of staff Mark Meadows during the period when Trump and his allies were pledging to fight to the Supreme Court to overturn the November 2020 election results.
“Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!…You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.” Mrs. Thomas said.
Despite the revelation of these messages, no indication has been given of what Clarence Thomas personally believes. His wife’s position is not necessarily indicative of his own, in fact, the text may not even be indicative of Virginia Clarence’s current stances that may have changed.
Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi fell just short of calling for the resignation of the longest sitting member of the court but did say that she feels she never should have been appointed.
“If your wife is an admitted and proud contributor to a coup of our country, maybe you should weigh that in your ethical standards,” said Pelosi. The Speaker did say that Thomas should recuse himself of any cases related to the January 6th riot.
When asked if she believes that he should resign, Pelosi said, “I don’t think he should have ever been appointed.”
More radical Representatives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the other hand have called for Thomas to be fully impeached over his wife’s beliefs if he does not refuse himself from cases related to January 6th or the 2020 election altogether.
