In an utterly despicable act of violence, a convenience store in Detroit was set ablaze with the clerk inside by a heartless individual on Tuesday.
The police department has released footage of the incident, which shows the accused culprit entering the store at 2:50 am on June 20 with a blue blowtorch and proceeding to spill the contents of a trash bin on the floor. After pointing to the trash pile and having a few words with the clerk, the arsonist lit the refuse with the torch as he stood halfway out the door.
The clerk was left with first-degree burns and had to be quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Detroit police have since arrested the individual responsible for this horrific act but have chosen to withhold his identity from the public. The man will undoubtedly face significant legal repercussions for his actions.
This incident goes to show that, unfortunately, even the places we frequent the most can become the site of unexpected violence. We should all exercise caution and vigilance when out in public, and businesses should take extra precautions to ensure the safety of their customers and staff.
