CNN’s Scott Jennings on Trump’s Victory: ‘Revenge of the Working-Class American’ and a Clear Mandate

Scott Jennings

CNN political commentator Scott Jennings weighed in on President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, calling it a powerful mandate from working-class Americans who are fed up with the direction of the country. Jennings described the win as a significant moment, noting, “This is a mandate. He’s won the national popular vote for the first time for a Republican since 2004. This is a big deal. This isn’t just backing into the office.”

The Fox News Decision Desk called the race for Trump on Wednesday after key victories in battleground states such as Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, solidifying his path to the White House. Jennings emphasized that Trump’s victory is a direct message from everyday Americans demanding real change. “This is a mandate to do what you said you were going to do: get the economy working again for regular working-class Americans, fix immigration, try to get crime under control, and reduce the chaos in the world,” Jennings explained.

Jennings further characterized the election results as “the revenge of the working-class American, the anonymous American who has been crushed, insulted, condescended to.” He spoke about the disconnect between these Americans and the current administration, stating, “They’re not garbage. They’re not Nazis. They’re just regular people who get up and go to work every day, trying to make a better life for their kids. And they feel like they have been told to just shut up when they’ve complained about the things that are hurting them in their own lives.”

Jennings also criticized the media’s portrayal of the election, calling it “an indictment of the political information complex.” He pointed to the numerous narratives that dominated coverage leading up to Election Day, often ignoring the real issues voters cared about. “We were told Puerto Rico was going to change the election. Liz Cheney, Nikki Haley voters, women lying to their husbands,” Jennings listed. “Night after night, people were told these things and gimmicks would somehow push Harris over the line, and we ignored the fundamentals: inflation, people feeling like they were barely able to tread water at best.”

For Jennings, Trump’s win signals a moment of vindication for working Americans who feel their voices have gone unheard for too long. The result, he suggests, is a powerful rebuke of the political establishment and a clear directive for the new administration to deliver meaningful change.
