Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is once again raising alarm bells—this time accusing President Donald Trump of pushing the country into a so-called “constitutional crisis” after the President suggested that federal judges who obstruct immigration enforcement should face impeachment.

The comments came after U.S. District Judge James Boasberg issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration’s deportation of suspected members of Tren de Aragua, a violent Venezuelan gang tied to transnational criminal activity. In response, Trump criticized the judge’s decision as a “national security threat” and called for impeachment proceedings against judges who, in his words, “sabotage lawful enforcement of immigration law.”

Schumer Melts Down on Sunday Talk Shows

Appearing on Meet the Press, Schumer wasted no time accusing the President of lawlessness and authoritarianism.
“Yes, I do think we’re in a constitutional crisis,” Schumer declared. “Donald Trump is a lawless, angry man.”

Schumer insisted the judiciary must remain “independent” and free from political consequences—even when federal judges unilaterally override executive authority on matters of national security and immigration enforcement.

Trump: “If Judges Undermine National Security, They Should Be Removed”

President Trump has stood firm, defending his call for accountability within the judiciary.
“These aren’t neutral arbiters,” he said. “When a judge blocks the deportation of known gang members who pose a threat to Americans, that judge isn’t upholding the Constitution—they’re putting lives at risk.”

Trump’s stance reflects a broader frustration among voters who believe unelected judges are obstructing the will of the people and protecting criminal aliens under the guise of legal process.

Chief Justice Enters the Fray

Even Chief Justice John Roberts issued a rare public statement defending judicial independence—a move critics say only confirms the growing politicization of the courts. Roberts has previously remained silent on activist rulings from the left, but felt compelled to respond once Trump challenged the status quo.

Constitutional Crisis—or Political Theater?

While Schumer and his allies try to paint Trump’s criticism of the judiciary as a threat to democracy, others argue it’s simply a necessary check on activist judges who have inserted themselves into areas clearly under the authority of the executive branch—particularly on immigration and national security.

Legal scholars aligned with constitutional originalism have noted that impeachment of federal judges is a legitimate constitutional tool, especially when judges abuse their power or engage in behavior that threatens public safety.

Bottom Line

Schumer’s hysteria may play well on liberal news networks, but the real crisis isn’t Trump’s rhetoric—it’s a judicial system that shields criminals and undermines border enforcement. As President Trump continues to expose unelected power centers in Washington, expect more hand-wringing from Democrats—and more support from Americans who want judges to follow the law, not rewrite it.
