Chris Cuomo Returns To CNN, This Is What He Has To Say

Chris Cuomo

Chris Cuomo made his return to primetime news Monday with his new show “Cuomo” on NewsNation.

Cuomo was fired by CNN in December 2021 after it was revealed that he used his media sources to help his brother, then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, through his sexual harassment scandal.

The New York attorney general’s office investigation discovered that Chris had used his contacts to try to get information about his brother’s accusers.

Cuomo’s show on CNN was the most-watched, often reaching 2 million viewers a night.

NewsNation is less than two years old and has an average audience of about 46,000, reported the Guardian.

“I would like to dive right into the issues that are being ignored at home and abroad and the game that is driving our politics, but obviously, this show is not a normal show start, given how I got here,” Cuomo said to open the show.

“Shakespeare wrote in the Tempest, that ‘the past is prologue,’” he added.

Cuomo noted that he has “learned lessons good and bad” since he was fired from CNN.

“I’ve relied on my friends, my family, my therapist, and thankfully, it’s been the case that what doesn’t kill us, does make us stronger,” he continued.

“I’ve been humbled by what happened but I am also hungry to do better in a way that I have never done before. So this show is going to be different from what I have done in the past because I’m different,” Cuomo said.

He also claimed his show will be different from others because he has spent time watching news coverage from the sidelines.

Cuomo promised to be “more transparent about where my head is on the issues that we cover” and said he has “a new appreciation for exactly how unique my situation is.”

“Most people in my business know politics from the outside. I know it from the inside,” he explained.

Leaving out his brother, Andrew, Chris mentioned his father, former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo.

“I was raised by a giant named Mario Cuomo, a major voice for the old Democratic Party. I have seen the inner workings of campaigns and the interplay between politics and government and the interplay between the media and those in power in a way few others in my position have,” he said.

According to the New York Post, Cuomo was making around $6 million a year from his CNN job, but will bring in just $1 million for his new gig.
