Cheryl Hines Steals Spotlight at Miami UFC Fight

Cheryl Hines, known for her hilarious persona on screen, hails from the sunshine state of Florida. Her most noted role to date has been as the spouse of Larry David’s character in the well-regarded HBO show, ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.’ Besides her acclaimed TV role, she also starred in the rowdy comedy film ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’ as Kristen Bell’s on-screen mother. Cheryl Hines also boasts of academic accomplishment, being an alumnus of the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

A recent UFC fight in Miami, Florida, brought together a flurry of faces from the celebrity world, including Donald Trump, Cheryl Hines, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Kai Madison Trump. The event that unfolded in the ring wasn’t the only spectacle. Cheryl Hines managed to steal some of the limelight, becoming a trendy topic during the match. This was particularly noteworthy following the arrival of the former president, Donald Trump, on Saturday, April 12, at the Kaseya Center.

Whilst in the arena, Trump mingled with his fans, offering greetings and pleasantries. Among the noteworthy public figures he interacted with was Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who happens to be Cheryl Hines’ husband. However, an unexpected occurrence stole the show. A viral video shows Hines offering her hand to Trump for a handshake after he had just greeted her husband. Yet, to Hines’ apparent chagrin, Trump seemed to ignore the gesture.

Hines, a Floridian by birth, is a well-loved actress and comedienne, lauded for her work as Cheryl, Larry David’s fictional wife in ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.’ Larry David has yet another claim to fame, being the co-creator of the hit sitcom, ‘Seinfeld,’ alongside Jerry Seinfeld. Hailing from Tallahassee, Hines is an alumnus of the University of Central Florida and culminated her marital journey with Kennedy in August 2014.

Looking back, she credits her on-screen marital relationship with Larry David as being pivotal in real life, as David was the one who introduced her to Kennedy back in 2006 at a fundraising event. Hines might be seen as a bridge between her husband and Trump, once political opponents. Interestingly, Trump went on to select Kennedy to head the Department of Health and Human Services, supporting him in his ‘Make America Healthy Again’ campaign.

In the previous month, a noteworthy event saw the former President Donald Trump and RFK Jr. traveling to Trump’s exclusive club, Mar-a-Lago, conveniently situated in Palm Beach, Florida. The recent UFC fight in Miami marks the latest in a string of high-profile sporting events Trump has been observed attending. His growing sports attendance list includes the Super Bowl LIX, the Daytona 500, NCAA wrestling championship finals, and LIV Golf Tournament, all held in Miami.

As of April 11, Trump marked his ninth visit (out of ten total visits) to Florida, targeting Palm Beach since he assumed office on January 20, 2025. The incident involving the perceived ignored handshake gave off serious ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ vibes. Cheryl Hines isn’t merely a one-show wonder; her talents have won her two Primetime Emmy nominations for her role in that very TV series.

Hines has had a varied career beyond that, appearing in numerous films like ‘Herbie: Fully Loaded’ (2005), ‘Cake’ (2005), ‘RV’ (2006), and her aforementioned role in ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’ (2017). Social media was quick to catch on to what was termed the ‘handshake snub,’ with users rushing to defend Trump. Many argued the height difference between Hines and Trump could have resulted in him unintentionally missing Hines’ offered handshake.

Further defending the incident, many humorously pointed out Hines’ comedic disappointment, which she seemed to play up for the cameras. Events later took a turn as pictures surfaced showing the former president finally acknowledging Hines and engaging in the missed handshake. Some social media users insisted that Trump had simply not seen Hines’ initial gesture and that his bypass of her handshake was purely unintentional.
