If you thought that Americans were crazy when it comes to mask enforcement, you might want to steer clear of our northern neighbor. A Canadian man was recently kicked out of a dollar store for smelling a candle with his mask lowered.
The viral video begins with shouting from Dollarama employees insisting that the man leave the building. The man confronts the employees insisting that his mask was only briefly down to smell the candle being sold at the store.
He demonstrates the action for the camera, lowering his face covering and smelling the product. At this time more employees begin yelling. “PUT YOUR MASK UP!” The cashier yells.
“And now I have another guy yelling at me over here” the man recording says. By the time the camera pans back over, his mask has already been pulled up. “Unbelievable man, I will literally never come back here again,” he continued.
“It’s no loss to the store” another employee said just before a bystander chimed in “well I won’t be shopping her anymore either if you’re going to talk to people like that.”
Little did the store worker know, this video would go viral likely driving more of their customers away and causing a loss of business.
This incident begs the question – why even sell candles during a pandemic if customers will be removed for sniffing them? Nobody wants to buy a candle if they do not know what it smells like. Twitter users indicate that this issue is not as uncommon as you might think
