Officials from the Broward Sheriff’s Office who are working on a major traffic-related homicide case are making a public appeal. They are seeking assistance in tracking down the driver implicated in a lethal hit-and-run event.
Dawn at about 5:55 a.m. on the chilly morning of January 4th brought grim news. Broward Sheriff’s Office officials along with the Pompano Beach Fire Rescue team raced to the scene responding to a distress call. This urgent report pertained to a pedestrian who was unfortunately hit by a moving vehicle in the 2700 block region of West Atlantic Boulevard.
When emergency responders arrived at the site, they came across a female victim. She was hastily carried to Broward Health North, a nearby medical facility, with hopes of immediate medical attention. However, the mortal nature of her injuries meant their efforts were in vain.
Tragically, the woman was declared deceased shortly after her emergency admission to Broward Health North. To date, her identity remains undisclosed, awaiting official communication with her next of kin. The detectives handling the case continue to keep her name under wraps respecting the grieving progress of her immediate family.
As the details of the incident unfold, detectives have begun piecing together the events that transpired that fateful morning. It appears that the woman was crossing West Atlantic Boulevard, heading in a northward direction when calamity struck.
A dark colored sedan that was cruising eastbound collided with her unsuspectingly. Eyewitnesses who recounted the event have shared that the vehicle came to a brief halt immediately after the mishap.
Interestingly, the driver appeared cognizant of the catastrophe, taking a moment to acknowledge the unfortunate woman lying motionless on the asphalt. However, instead of coming forth and accepting responsibility, they chose to flee the scene, zooming northwards along Powerline Road.
As the investigation progresses, law enforcement officers believe that the escape vehicle could have suffered notable damage. They surmise the shock of the impact would have most likely damaged the vehicle’s hood and possibly even its windshield.
The Broward County Crime Stoppers are now involved, joining efforts to trace the perpetrator. Those with any helpful leads pertaining to the event are urged to reach out with their valuable information.
