Edward Blake, a Border Patrol officer active since 2020, expressed his deep dissatisfaction on how the current state of affairs turned his work into what he described as a ‘migrant taxi service’. He is extremely worried about the escalating issues at the heavily troubled southern border, and anticipates a worsening of the situation.
Blake felt disheartened that instead of focusing on thwarting drug trafficking activities, arresting illegal immigrants, and ensuring the security of American citizens—which encapsulated the work he signed up for—he is now tasked primarily with aiding individuals entering the country. ‘Assisting people to immigrate isn’t what I agreed to doing’, the 31-year-old officer shared.
In his experience, Blake worked at both the northern and southern borders of the US and bore witness to large-scale undocumented immigrant releases. He claimed that these actions lacked proper scrutiny under the administration of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Disturbingly, according to Blake, in excess of 8 million immigrants have made their way across the southern border since January 2021. Among these immigrants, he said, were convicts, sexual culprits, terrorists, and gang members, with some belonging to Tren de Aragua, a notorious Venezuelan prison gang.
He reported that more than 1.7 million individuals have illegally entered the southern border undetected during the current administration, a fact supported by Border Patrol data. The awareness of these ‘gotaways’ compounds his existing concerns.
Blake mourns for victims of violent crimes by immigrants, citing names like Kayla Hamilton, Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and Jocelyn Nungaray that now ‘torment’ him. ‘I am politically neutral; I only aspire to do my job and protect this country,’ Blake adamantly asserts.
His grief is exacerbated by the fact that he sees foreign nationals receive benefits exceeding those available to the average American citizen, without any repercussion even when they commit crimes. He specifically referenced instances when crimes led to the deaths of citizens and women were subjected to sexual assault.
Blake voiced out his apprehensions about the escalating numbers of solo minor migrants traversing the border. He pointed out that no ‘biographical data’ are recorded for children younger than 14 years by the Border Patrol, leaving a substantial knowledge gap.
Countering this problem, he says, involves verifying the addresses these children are traveling to and ensuring family connections, which isn’t currently being done. ‘All we have is the paperwork; no definitive evidence to verify their admission,’ he lamented.
The veracity of Blake’s claims was corroborated by several anonymous Border Patrol sources who contacted The Post. They confirmed that no biometric identification data are collected for children below the age of 14.
As of May 2024, approximately 291,000 migrant minors who accessed the US unaccompanied by an adult have been released without receiving a court date. This allows them to essentially vanish, as there’s no way to efficiently track their whereabouts.
Compounding this issue, records showed that between October 2018 and September 2023, around 32,000 children who did receive court dates didn’t show up for court following their release. This only adds another layer of complexity to the already strained situation.
Blake bravely stated that he’s prepared to risk his job to voice his concerns about an impending ‘disaster’ stemming from the loosely regulated border situation. He maintains that things are set to get much worse, even beyond the public’s current perception.
He firmly announced, ‘The number of people turning up concerns me deeply. Whatever you currently perceive the situation to be, prepare for it to become much graver.’
Feeling a strong sense of disillusionment and frustration, Blake declared, ‘I won’t partake in this situation any longer. I’m standing up now to speak against this and will accept any consequences that come my way.’
