Biden’s UN Address: A Display of America’s Failing Influence

When Joe Biden took to the podium at the United Nations General Assembly, his performance was a tragic portrayal of America’s dwindling power and the catastrophic foreign policy actions that his administration, including Vice President Kamala Harris, has made. Being fully aware that Iran is the principal state backer of terrorism and fuels the fire of hostility on an international scale, Biden managed to dedicate only two sentences in his expansive discourse to this topic. He reiterated the phrase that Iran would never acquire nuclear capabilities, despite the widely acknowledged fact, recognized by the UN’s Atomic Energy Agency, that Iran, under his governance, is already on the brink of becoming a nuclear nation.

His apparent selective focusing was even more evident when he spent a large portion of his speech discussing Gaza, disregarding the plight of hundreds of millions living in dismal conditions because of various conflicts and in countries the United Nations conversely neglects, as they favour to single out Israel. He framed the Middle East narrative following the flawed script of the U.N, and demanded to ‘ease the suffering in Gaza,’ noticeably failing to acknowledge the hardships endured in Israel.

While Biden did recognize the torment of the hostage families and ‘the innocent civilians in Gaza’, he blatantly ignored the agony experienced by countless Israeli families who lost their loved ones to Palestinian terrorists or those who are continuously stationed on the front lines to protect their nation from nefarious adversaries. What about the ordeal of millions of Israelis repeatedly seeking refuge in bomb shelters due to continuous rocket attacks? It seems these hardships fell on deaf ears when Biden took to the stage.

What followed in Biden’s address was marked by a disturbing lack of moral direction. When discussing the situation in Lebanon, he stated that ‘too many on each side of the Israeli-Lebanon border remain displaced.’ This fails to consider the tens of thousands of Israelis who have been forced to leave their homes in Northern Israel for nearly a year due to unprovoked attacks from Hezbollah and Iran.

Fast forwarding merely a week when Israel finally retaliated to these onslaughts and to the looming grave danger posed by Iran and its cohorts, Biden pointedly referred to displaced Lebanese. What about understanding the root cause of this displacement? It seems Biden conveniently overlooked that this was spurred by Hezbollah’s operations in their residential areas, effectively using them as human shields.

This unexpected moral equivalency from a Democratic president of the United States should be ringing warning bells to the people of America. Biden then parroted another U.N. script when he asked the world to ‘address the rise of violence against innocent Palestinians on the West Bank’, creating an illusion as if there was no upswing in the form of Palestinian terror attacks against innocent Israeli Jews.

Attempting to portray these attacks as simple violence against innocent Palestinians completely neglects the reality of Palestinian Authority fueling animosity in the West Bank, enticing terrorists with financial incentives. Biden’s bias presents a red flag that promotes a distorted worldview from one of the most powerful offices in the world.

Looking into the future and considering a potential President Kamala Harris scenario, Biden’s remarks provided alarming signs. One glaring omission was his failure to highlight the growing scourge of global antisemitism, a sinister force that is nourished and provoked by the United Nations and those present in his General Assembly audience.

Sadly, this virulent antisemitism is tarnishing the essence of a harmonious and accepting America. Furthermore, Jewish hatred is directly contributing to the Iranian threats to global peace. However, these consequential issues failed to find their place in Biden’s narrative.

Instead, the Biden-Harris administration churned out clichéd rhetoric on ‘common hope’ and ‘co-operation’, elements which are touted by America’s adversaries from the very same podium at every U.N. General Assembly get-together. This not only reflects a cognitive dissonance in policy but also a stubborn unwillingness to acknowledge the harsh realities.

As if to add insult to injury, Biden’s concluding speech, which could have been used to firmly castigate the United Nations for being a barrier to tolerance, equality, and global tranquility, was woefully wasted. Such missed opportunities are not just disappointing, but represent a persistent failure in the way the Biden-Harris administration chooses to navigate complex international dilemmas.

Squandering a potential moment of honesty and chastisement of the U.N. for its role in promoting inequality and disrupting world peace, Biden chose instead to follow the mainstream narrative. These actions make it crystal clear that this administration prefers to overlook crucial issues and paint a rosy picture that is far detached from the ground realities.

Each phrase and sentence of Biden’s speech at the assembly has further amplified the perceptions of his administration’s failing approach to international relations. This is a sad testament to a presidency that had the potential to foster peace and stability but instead magnified divisions and avoided acknowledging harsh truths.

The Biden-Harris administration’s stance, as exemplified in this speech, reflects a dangerous refusal to confront reality. It’s a refusal that damages America’s standing on the global stage and undermines potential progress in achieving world peace. One can only hope that the growing chorus of dissatisfaction will lead to a much-needed re-evaluation in this administration’s approach.

Looking toward the future, one cannot deny that the patterns highlighted through Biden’s U.N. speech necessitate a wake-up call. The world needs not moments of hollow rhetoric, but transparent leadership and strong conviction to combat the very real issues facing society today.
