The Biden administration’s persistent state of self-deception regarding their perception of the president’s future legacy, is gravely concerning. It seems rather apparent that President Joe Biden’s contributions are destined to be seen as nothing more than a myriad of oversights. An array of supporters and staff members frequenting the Washington Post have expressed concerns that the electorate fails to appreciate and comprehend his ‘substance’, as stated emphatically by Representative Jim Clyburn (D-SC), a staunch supporter.
Similarly, they argue that voters do not truly grasp his ‘decisions and vision’, as was put forward by his backers. A rather comical response was articulated by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who suggested that ‘The president has been operating on a time horizon measured in decades, while the political cycle is measured in four years.’
Digging deeper into Sullivan’s verbose means, one might question what exactly Biden has done to facilitate the longevity and prosperity of the United States. His grossly mismanaged extraction from Afghanistan not only resulted in the unnecessary loss of American lives but also significantly tarnished the U.S.’s global standing. This withdrawal allowed the Taliban to regain control and seriously called into question the international credibility of U.S. commitments.
Ironically, Biden’s withdrawal strategy had a domino effect, emboldening Russia to advance upon Ukraine. In tandem with Biden’s apparent display of fragility and his dubious endeavours to mend relations with Iran, this led to a surge in aggression from Hamas and other Iranian affiliates towards Israel.
Amusingly, Sullivan’s remarks, as though emanating from an alternate reality, tend to be classic characteristics of Biden’s gravely ineffective national security and foreign policy group. In his pursuit of short-term political gain, Biden’s actions have, if anything, put American standing into jeopardy.
One of Biden’s egregious moves was the reckless utilization of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve to address the sharp rise in gas prices, a consequence of his own impulsive splurge on progressive policies.
This indulgence in progressive spending was primarily aimed at transforming the country into an environmentalist utopia, which included a lavish investment of $7.5 million on building electric vehicle charging stations. However, a paltry seven stations emerged over two years, leading one to wonder if this was the ‘time horizon’ Sullivan had mentioned.
Contrary to how Sullivan, Clyburn, or his team wish to remember him, Biden is slated to go down in history as a president who failed. Only a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic would explain his victory in 2020. His leadership has catalyzed an economic turmoil and an international escalation as some of the world’s worst actors took advantage of his nonchalance.
Biden’s pitiful performance enabled the return of President-elect Donald Trump to the White House by endorsing policies that took a nosedive along with his deteriorating cognitive faculties. The blame for the failed tenure of Vice President Kamala Harris also lies squarely on Biden’s shoulders.
Biden, the one who selected Harris as his running mate and appointed her to fill in his shoes despite her notorious political track record, truly bears the responsibility for her downfall. Reflecting a toxic partisanship, weakness, and recklessness that mirror Biden’s own political career, his presidency has left a lot to be desired.
One cannot help but wonder how a man who could barely function past evening was believed to be making decisions that would shape the future decades. The truth was rather apparent; Biden was more concerned with securing re-election and promoting a waning progressive movement.
During his faltering leadership, Biden’s focus on short-lived political victories came at the cost of long-term American strength, a sacrifice that proved futile as he ultimately fell short in achieving his political aspirations.
In the grand scheme of things, Biden’s presidency has been a blend of oversight, failure, and unfulfilled promises. His legacy will be remembered as an era marked by lackluster performance and missed opportunities, far from the visionary and future-focused administration his team paints it to be.
