On his Linkedin page, Brinton wrote “In this role I’ll be doing what I always dreamed of doing, leading the effort to solve the nation’s nuclear waste challenges”. He also mentioned he would “even be (to my knowledge) the first gender-fluid person in federal government leadership”.

His biography on an LGBTQ website says he “received a dual Master’s degree in engineering systems and nuclear science and engineering from MIT”.

A “survivor of conversion therapy,” Brinton “founded 50 Bills 50 States, a non-profit campaign to ban licensed professionals from practicing conversion therapy on LGBT youth”.

On his own website it says, “Sam has worn his stilettos to Congress to advise legislators about nuclear policy and to the White House where he advised President Obama and Michelle Obama on LGBT issues. He shows young men and women everywhere he goes that they can be who they are and gives them courage”.

The National Pulse reported that Brinton’s drag queen alter ego is “Sister Ray Dee O’Active”. He is part of the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” a Washington, D.C. chapter of a drag queen society.

In an interview, Brinton explained how he roleplays as a “pup” handler. PJ Media reported it “apparently involves grown men putting on dog masks and behaving like animals for sexual kicks”.

Metro Weekly explained that “IN THE PUP COMMUNITY, handlers function the same way dog owners do, keeping a watchful eye on their charge and reining in the pups if needed”.

“I actually have trouble when we transition from pup play to having sex,” Brinton said. “Like, ‘No, I can’t have you whimper like that when we’re having sex,’ because I don’t want to mix that world”.

In March of 2018, Brinton held a class for the University of Wisconsin-Stout Gender and Sexuality Alliance on the “Physics of Kink”. A description on Instagram said the class included “live demos on the tension forces of bondage, thermodynamics of wax play, physics of impact, and circuits of electro play”.
