The Government Accountability Office (GAO) launched an investigation over President Biden’s decision to halt the Southern border wall on Tuesday.
$1.9 billion out of the $900 billion stimulus bill passed under the Trump Administration in December was already allocated for the border wall.
Because Biden halted the construction, the GAO is looking into if his decision, which froze funding, violated Congress’ spending authority.
A manager from the Project on Government Oversight, Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette, told Politico, “The Biden administration has to be really careful about doing stuff like this, because otherwise they’re just going to be doing the exact thing the Trump administration did — just at the other end of the policy spectrum.”
