Last week, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, during a formal communication to the nation, resisted the attempts by the Biden administration to halt the ongoing operation by the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) in Gaza.
The wartime commander expressed a firm stance on continuing the IDF’s operations unless Hamas agrees to the release of over 200 innocent lives captured in southern Israel after the ghastly terrorist assault on October 7th.
Earlier that day, an important meeting took place between Netanyahu and the United States’ Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The Israeli officials provided the US dignitary with previously unseen footage from the savage attack on October 7th, which resulted in more than 1,400 Israeli and 32 American casualties, a stark reminder of the horror that was unleashed.
The abhorrent act on that fateful day served as the catalyst to the IDF’s ground mission into the Gaza Strip last month. It was also instrumental in allowing a significant $14 billion aid package to successfully pass in the House of Representatives on Thursday. The Israeli government has been resolute on its position of restricting fuel and funds inflow into the Gaza Strip.
Notably, the Biden administration has been facing increasing pressure predominantly from the leftists to speak for a ceasefire, which could significantly resemble a pause in the ongoing conflict. Lawmakers with a progressive standpoint such as Reps Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ilhan Omar (R-MN), Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY), and several others have been advocating an immediate resolution to the conflict.
While Biden’s struggle to bring an end to the hostility continues, the global community, including Israelis and Americans, have been exposed to the heinous acts of Hamas through the circulating photographs and speeches from the senior leadership of Hamas.
The DC Enquirer had previously disclosed a video clip featuring a high-ranking Hamas official, Ghazi Hamad. He could be seen spouting inflammatory remarks during an interview on Lebanon’s LBC TV. He openly declared Hamas’ intent to conduct more attacks of similar nature to the horrendous one on southern Israel on October 7th.
During the said interview, Hamad stated, ‘Israel must learn its lesson. Commencing a repeat action of the October 7th will not be once but potentially a second, a third, a fourth time due to our steadfast commitment, determination, and combat readiness.’
While recognizing that there would be a cost associated with their actions, he boasted, ‘We are prepared to shoulder this burden. We are proudly identified as a nation of martyrs willing to make sacrifices.’
Attempting to justify the killings, Hamad declared, ‘Our intention is not to harm innocent lives, however, on-ground complications exist. The location was widespread covering approximately 40 kilometers and had a civilian presence.’ Despite this claim, there is concrete evidence to prove that Hamas terrorists intentionally targeted civilians.
In a bid to present Hamas as victims, Hamad continued, ‘Israel’s presence is irrational, and this is the root cause of all the bloodshed, suffering, and tears. We aren’t the problem – the existence of Israel is.’ He asserted, ‘We are the oppressed ones here. Therefore, we cannot be held accountable for our actions’, adding, ‘We believe that everything we do is valid.’
The clashes between the Israelis and Hamas has, therefore, intensified over the past month, with the defense operations of the IDF escalating rapidly. Netanyahu’s determined reaction to the American desire for a ceasefire has further revealed the resolute stance of the Israeli government – to not back down without securing their rightful objectives from this conflict.

Integration of different viewpoints within the democratic space, from advocating an immediate ceasefire to recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense, is affecting the administration’s foreign policy decisions.
